Georgioupoli or Georgioupolis (Greek: Γεωργιούπολη) is a village and resort on the Greek island of Crete. It is located 43 km east of Chania, about 22 km west of Rethymno and about 100 km west of Heraklio in the Apokoronas region. It was named after Prince George of Greece, high commissioner of the island in the last years of Ottoman occupation.

Georgioupoli is found at the apex of Almiros Bay on the Sea of Crete, with Cape Drapano and its rocky coast to the north and the long sandy beaches towards Rethimno in the east, just 20 km away. Three rivers meet the sea at the village; the largest, Almiros, creates a small harbour for fishing and tourist boats. The entrance to the village on the old road from Vrisses is a long avenue of eucalyptus trees.

Road signFormerly a small fishing village, Georgioupoli is very much a tourist town now, with many cafés, tavernas and small hotels and apartment blocks. The town square is surrounded by outdoor seating used by tourists enjoying their drinks and ice creams. The 9 km beach is the main attraction of the area, with Kalyvaki beach on the other side of the river as well. Nearby Lake Kournas is also a popular excursion by foot, bicycle or tourist 'train'. Georgioupoli is a well-located base for exploring the traditional villages of the area towards Vamos or into the White Mountains to the south.

Archaeological evidence points to Georgioupoli as the site of ancient Amphimalla (Amfimala or Amfimalion), the port of Lappa, a classical city at modern Argyroupoli.

Georgioupoli, with 600 residents, is the largest village of a municipality of the same name, covering several other villages inland as far as Kournas. The town hall of Georgioupoli municipality is at Kavros-Kournas. The Mayor is, as of 2005[update], Georgios Papadakis. As of the elections on 15 October 2006, the mayor is now Ferdinandos Marikakis.

Salou (Greek: Salauris) is a seaside resort and tourist centre in Catalonia, about 10 km from Tarragona on the Costa Daurada, and little over 92km to central Barcelona. Aside from its string of beaches interrupted by rocky coves, and its landscaped promenade, one of its main attractions is the Port Aventura complex, formerly owned by the Universal Studios chain of theme parks.

Used as a port by Greeks and Romans, it appeared again in an important historic event, when in 1229 the fleet of James I of Aragon departed from the port of Salou to conquer the Balearic islands, thus creating the Kingdom of Majorca and in 1286 Alfons III of Aragon also departed from this port to conquer Minorca, the last muslim territory of the Balearic Islands. Later, Salou became a nest of pirates. After that it was considered an unsafe place, so in 1530 Archbishop of Tarragona decided to erect a new defence tower, now called Torre Vella. In 1865 the railway station began to operate, opening a new development time, that led one hundred years later to a tourist boom that has brought prosperity to the town.

Salou is the tourist capital of the Costa Daurada, due to its many tourist facilities and its beautiful beaches; it is a popular holiday destination due to its Mediterranean climate. The town contains theme and water parks such as Port Aventura and Costa Caribe.

Port Aventura is a growing theme park resort on the Costa Daurada. Some of its Main attractions are the Dragon Khan, a massive B&M 'mega-looper and The Hurricane Condor a tall falling tower ride which is 100 meters tall. '. The park also has a grand multi-media show, called the 'Fiesta Aventura', every night in which fireworks, fountains and parade-esque floats feature. The latest addition to the park is Furius Baco which is now the fastest Roller Coaster in Europe.

The Salou Promenade (Passeig Jaume I) is one of the most beautiful landmarks of Salou, and it runs right along the coast adjacent to the Llevant Beach, the biggest beach in the town, although other beaches include Platja de Ponent, Platja dels Capellans, Platja Llarga and Cala Crancs. Salou beaches have 34 Blue Flags.

Salou's closest airport is Reus (which it is connected to by a regular bus service) followed by Barcelona (1 hour by car or train).

Kefalos, a Greek resort, is situated at the southwest side of the island of Kos, in the municipality of Irakleides, 43 km from Kos Town.

It is built on a stone height, dominated by the imposing windmill of Papavasilis and is home to 2,458 inhabitants (2001 census).

Resort
The resort of Kefalos is purpose-built and is surrounded by vast scenery and sits beneath the old town of Kefalos, from which it takes its name.

Greek folklore tells of a timid woodland afid who came to the town in search of his lover. Upon the seductive encounter, a sound was made resembling that of the chimpanic whooping cough. As a tribute to the session, the natives dubbed the town "Kefalos" after the couple.

Visitors today can visit the site where the island was first named. On dark, stormy nights, guests still report hearing the sound of noodle whoopie.

The resort has plenty of restaurants and a couple of small nightclubs, but is mainly geared for tourists looking for a quiet holiday.

Vasilitsa is one of the best ski resorts in Greece.[citation needed] The ski center is located in the middle of Pindos (40.033N, 21.083E), approximately 42km away from Grevena and 417km from Athens. The ski resorts currently has 5 lifts and 16 ski trails. The summit of the resort is 2113m above sea level and the total vertical drop about 450m. Vasilitsa is considered the snowboarders paradise, since the quality and quantity of snowfall allow for many off-piste routes. It is the only Greek ski resort with superb black-pine trees surrounding the ski trails.
